Welcome to Darkroom - A Concept Store on London's Lamb's Conduit St

DARKROOM IS INTO AFRICA…

image

Darkroom presents: INTO AFRICA – A summer season of African influenced modernist accessories With traditional African arts and textiles as our starting point, we and some of London's most exciting designers have explored outwards from the heart of the continent into brand new and unexpected contexts and territories. We are presenting the results throughout the store in celebration of Darkroom's first summer season.

On-line shop coming soon…

Now that we have had a couple of months to settle into our 3-D shop, the Darkroom ladies [and honorary gentlemen] have been busy working on the very exciting on-line version of the store. We aim to have as many of our pieces available to purchase on-line as possible so that all those lovely customers who live outside London can also share in the delights of Darkroom. All things going to plan, we should be up and running within a matter of weeks. In the meantime we offer a telephone sales service and can ship worldwide. Pictured here is a plaited leather bracelet by jeweller Ana-Maria.

Men’s accessories in-store now…

Collaborations include H by Harris for Darkroom – a range of laptop skins made using Nubuck leathers unique to Darkroom, each lined with fabrics from our own collection of vintage African cloths. Celebrated milliner Noel Stewart who designs hats for the likes of Hussein Chalayan and Marc Jacobs has created a range of one-off hats each made with wax printed African fabrics.

Darkroom has also launched their own line of beautifully made cotton bow ties and pocket squares in oversize gingham and vibrant African fabrics.

We have lots of man bags instore ranging from utilitarian canvas and leather pieces by R6/Kenneth Mackenzie [6876], beautifully simple leather satchels by French label Isaac Reina – who previously worked at Hermés as head of men's accessories, black leather luggage by new Italian label A_I and weekender bags made from Tyvek – a tear and water resistant paper by German designer Saskia Diez.

INTO AFRICA EXHIBITION IS NOW ON

image

As part of our Into Africa season, we have an exhibition of limited edition prints and one-off artworks by a selection of designers and artists. Fashion designer David David has created a set of 3 prints based on African textile prints and beading. Leading interiors stylist Despina Curtis [Wallpaper*/Elle Decoration/Case Da Abitare] has produced an amazing set of overprinted African textiles each framed in a brightly coloured handpainted frame. Textile artist Lizzie Finn has designed and hand made 4 African mask wall hangings that double up as storage for bathrooms or hallways by way of built in pockets and hooks, and Darkroom director and designer Rhonda Drakeford has designed 2 prints based on the painting of the Ndebele tribe of South Africa.
