Stolen from De Stijl
STOLEN FROM DE STIJL — Inspired by the structures, colour palettes, techniques and textures of work by members of the Dutch De Stijl movement of the 1920’s, including Theo Van Doesburg, Gerrit Rietveld and Piet Mondrian — Darkroom have brought to life this Modernist movement for today’s audience. Hand printed canvas is chopped up and sewn into 3 dimensional cushion sculptures, or used in the body of the signature Darkroom leather-handled tote bags. The hard edged, geometric shapes become fluid and abstracted when printed onto fine guage wool scarves. Beautifully crafted hand-bound books sit alongside hand painted, oversize ceramic plates can be used on the table or as decorative wall hangings.
