DARKROOM PRESENTS THE ‘GEOMETRIC LIVING COLLECTION’ BY ROCKMAN & ROCKMAN
Darkroom is excited to present a window installation of the new and unique parquet table series by design duo Rockman & Rockman. Utilising a combination of medieval carpentry knowledge and 21st Century technologies, Rockman & Rockman’s geometric parquetry creates symmetrical patterns that gently tessellate, following the rhythm that the shapes they create suggest. Hand-cut and fitted using unique parquetry techniques, each tabletop is complemented with tapered Oak turned legs and a Shellac finish.
Avid collectors of 20th Century furniture design and graphic ephemera, Mark Garside and Kate Lennard are Rockman & Rockman, a family business based close to the spiritual heart of the old East London furniture trade around Shoreditch. It is this close proximity, being within only a few miles of Darkroom’s Bloomsbury home, coupled with the bold use of materials, and the strong visual repetition and sheer craftsmanship of parquetry, that further enhances Darkroom’s fascination with Rockman & Rockman’s unique series of tables.
In addition, the installation will be complemented by a series of special edition blue block-prints by renowned London based interior stylist Despina Curtis.
The window installation runs from 7th - 21st May 2012.
